NOSTALGIA DRAG RACE FANS AND LEGENDS CELEBRATE DAY TWO OF THE CALIFORNIA HOT ROD REUNION

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Hundreds of racers and fans flocked to the iconic Auto Club Famoso Raceway for day two of the 21^st annual NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion presented by Automobile Club of Southern California. Saturday’s racing action kicked off with incredible runs in all nostalgia racing classes including Nostalgia Top Fuel, Nostalgia Funny Car, Nostalgia Pro Mod, Junior Fuel, A/Gas, A/Fuel, 7.0 Pro, A/FX, Nostalgia Eliminator and exhibition.

Rick Williamson of Stockton, Calif. raced to the No. 1 Nostalgia Top Fuel qualifying position on Saturday. In Nostalgia Funny Car, Chad Head, racing operations manager for the Alan Johnson-managed Al Anabi Racing team, raced to the No. 1 qualifying position. The Avon, Ind. native powered his 1977 Firebird to a performance of 5.760 seconds at 250.37 mph.

Marc Meadors of Danville, Calif. (Nostalgia Pro Mod), Chris Beanes of Valencia, Calif. (A/Gas), Don Taros of San Pedro, Calif. (Nostalgia Eliminator), David Franklin of Ramona, Calif. (AFX), Ron Huegli of West Linn, Ore. (7.0 Pro), Bud Hammer of Oxnard, Calif. (Junior Fuel) and Les Davenport of Alberta, Canada (A/Fuel) also will lead their respective categories into Sunday’s eliminations at the California Hot Rod Reunion event near Bakersfield.

NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series Nostalgia Funny Car defending champion Jason Rupert powered his 1969 Camaro to clinch his second title in the Series on Saturday. The The Hot Rod Heritage Series Nostalgia Top Fuel championship title will be crowned on Sunday. Adam Sorokin and Rick Williamson are racing for the Series Nostalgia TF championship title. Meanwhile, shoppers hit the vendor midway to find treasures and Hot Rod Reunion souvenirs, gear heads roamed the swap meet for parts and Nitro-nuts cruised through the racer pits.  Fans from around the world including Australia, New Zealand, England, Canada, and Sweden filled the grandstands and pits. Saturday night’s grand finale the amazing Cacklefest show began at sunset with a spectacular fire up of historic dragsters which are push started and fired up just like the early days of drag racing. Fans were literally in tears as the nitro filled the Auto Club Famoso track. The roaring cheers kept these iron machines warmed up for an incredible show of fire and sound.

Racing starts up at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning. Tickets are $25 for adults and all kids 15 and under are free with a paid adult. Auto Club Members, show your card and save.
