California Hot Rod Reunion Weekend Review

This past weekend, Oct. 16-18, was the much anticipated 18th California Hot Rod Reunion, presented by Automobile Club of Southern California, at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in McFarland, CA. It was a great weekend for racing and reunion fun. The weather was a perfect 85 degrees and the grandstands were jam-packed with spectators all weekend long.

 

Thousands of Reunion fans including over 300 race cars made the trek to Famoso for guaranteed vintage racing and affordable family fun.

 

“Every year, we aim to produce an event that people enjoy and keep coming back to, and I think we’ve accomplished that,” said Tony Thacker, executive director of the NHRA Motorsports Museum and Reunion director. “It’s great to see fans of all ages enjoy an affordable, fun weekend. We’re ready to do it again next year.”


Get your gears ready for 2010. The 19th California Hot Rod Reunion is set for Oct. 15-17, 2010.

Steckler came all the way from Edmonton, Stickler just around the mountain, in San Dimas.

Martin left first and just drove away from Steckler, who got out of shape around half track, taking out a timing reflector.

7:13 p.m. This is the final final of the 18th annual CHRR. Crawford left before the tree was activated. Then Krabill left, shook, pedaled, and almost crossed the centerline, so he lifted.

That's it, three great days of partying, with some great racing thrown in, comes to an end. Good night, and I just wish Darryl could have been here to bring it to you.

6:57 p.m. Just three finals to go and the 18th annual CHRR will be history. It should have been over a couple hours ago, but two major oildowns, one of them on an exhibition pass, threw the schedule out the window.

This turned into a pedaling contest, Anderson rattling the tires early, Roberts shutting off around half track.

6:30 p.m. A/Fuel can run either blown alcohol or injected nitro - we have one of each in the final, Wheeler's car injected, Wayne's blown.

On a holeshot, Wayne gets a close one. Bill Wayne's incremental margins: 60ft(0.024), 330 ft(0.036), 660ft(0.055), 1,000ft(0.039). MOV: 0.0099 seconds (approximately 3 feet).

6:37 p.m. Both drivers have been consistent on the tree all day, but Patten got a nice advantage on the tree only to see Beanes go by around half track for the win. Chris Beanes' MOV: 0.0459 seconds (approximately 12 feet).

6:39 p.m. Lander rattled the tires and trailed badly by 330 feet, but Hammer's car got loose in the middle of the run and Lander went by to take the win by several car lengths. Bob Lander's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.205), 330 ft(-0.462), 660ft(-0.102), 1,000ft(0.554). MOV: 1.4787 seconds (more than 100 feet).
